Every manicure, pedicure and set of enhancements below is done by a nail technology student, on tools sterilized between every client, with a licensed instructor checking the finish.

Chapter 01

Every tool, sterilized between clients

Sanitation is the first habit a nail student learns, not the last: files, buffers, cuticle tools and pushers are cleaned and sterilized between each client, the same standard whether the appointment is a $10 polish change or a full set of acrylics.

A licensed instructor is on the floor throughout, checking a student's setup before the appointment starts and the finished work before you leave the chair.

How long to set aside

A basic manicure runs about 30 to 45 minutes. Acrylics, sculpted nails or detailed nail art take longer, up to about 2 hours, since the student is building the set and shaping it by hand rather than applying a pre-made tip. Booking the right amount of time helps the appointment stay unrushed for both of you.

Chapter 03

When it isn't what it looks like

One reviewer, Lara Hayes, came in expecting a soak-off of what she thought was months of soft builder gel. Student Harper determined it was actually hard builder gel, thick and uneven, on a tight schedule with the Institute's closing time looming. Harper worked through it anyway, and brought in a more senior student to weigh in on a spot she wasn't sure about along the way.

"Harper worked diligently and meticulously to get my nails to a state from which I can start again." That kind of second opinion is normal on the clinic floor: students are trained to sterilize, listen, and ask a senior classmate before your nails leave the table, not to rush a set that isn't right yet.

Four months full time or six months part time, approved by the Kansas Board of Cosmetology. Nail educator Valeria Toscano, a 2022 graduate of the program herself, teaches the bench work.
